Human Development at the Pacific Regional Seminary is a deliberate and integral dimension of priestly formation, dedicated to fostering maturity, self-awareness, and personal integration among seminarians. The Seminary recognizes that authentic and fruitful priestly ministry is rooted not only in sound academic, pastoral, and spiritual preparation, but also in a healthy, balanced, and emotionally grounded human foundation.
To this end, seminarians participate in carefully structured formative processes that promote growth in self-knowledge, accountability, and interpersonal competence. A central component of this formation is regular personal accompaniment. Through consistent one-on-one engagement with formators and spiritual directors, seminarians are provided with a confidential and supportive environment in which they can reflect on their experiences, confront challenges, recognize strengths, and identify areas for ongoing growth. This process cultivates responsibility, deepens vocational clarity, and strengthens personal integrity.
Professional counselling services are also available as a proactive and constructive resource within the formation program. Counselling is approached not as a remedial intervention, but as a positive means of enhancing emotional awareness and psychological well-being. It assists seminarians in understanding their personal histories, relational patterns, and emotional responses, while equipping them with effective coping strategies and relational skills essential for pastoral ministry.
Furthermore, psychological assessments form an important part of the developmental framework. These evaluations provide valuable insights into personality dynamics, behavioural tendencies, and developmental needs. When integrated thoughtfully with spiritual and pastoral formation, such tools contribute to a holistic approach that ensures each seminarian is progressively developing the human qualities necessary for responsible leadership and compassionate service.
Through these intentional and comprehensive processes, the Pacific Regional Seminary affirms its commitment to forming not only academically competent and spiritually grounded candidates, but mature, resilient, and well-integrated men prepared to serve their communities with empathy, integrity, and wisdom.
